Support the Champions! On October 8th, I am running the Chicago Marathon in support of the Great Lakes Adapative Sports Assocation. GLASA provides programming in dozens of sports for people with physical or visual impairments, ranging from wheelchair basketball to archery, power soccer to water skiing and sled hocky to golf, just to name a few. The past year has been one of incredible accomplishments as both our sled hockey and power soccer teams have won their respective NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS! Similarly our athletes have competed at the highest levels both nationally and internationally, with several athletes competing at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio. We are constantly looking to expand our services to both youth and adults to assist them in reaching their maximum potential despite whatever particular challenges they face. Our slogan is "Let No One Sit on the Sidelines" and every month hundreds of our athletes live out that motto as they come together from accross Chicagoland (and even southern Wisconsin and northern Indiana) to train and compete with their peers.
For me, this is my 3rd time participating in the Chicago Marathon on behalf of GLASA (4th overall) and it is a honor to team up with such a dedicated group of runners and coaches who are dedicating much of their free time and energy in 2017 to helping GLASA provide these opportunities to the hundreds of GLASA athletes who provide us with inspiration every day. Your support of my 2017 campaign on behalf of GLASA is GREATLY appreciated by me, but more importantly, by our athletes who overcome incredilbe challenges every day just to show up and compete and, as 2017 has already illustrated repeatedly, TO BECOME CHAMPIONS!
